Surfs Up!
Today we hopped on the Tram (an electric metro line) that took us to San Juan Beach. There we were met with instructors from “Aloha Sport”. We then were giving surfing and body board lessons. Students wanted to jump right into the water, but first they had to earn their sea legs. Many students were anxious, excited, and ready to brave the waters. For some it was their first time be able to surf or seeing it so up close and personal. Thanks to "Aloha Sport" students received their own surfboards, bodyboards, and an underamour shirt for the lessons. They then carried their surfboards down to the beach to get started with, for some of them, their very first surfing lesson ever.
They were instructed to go onto the beach and draw a surfboard and practice, balance, support and riding. They laughed as they practiced on their “sandboards” and were told to do so until they felt comfortable. After much needed practice they were ready to brave the waters. Some took to the call of the sea faster than others. While others found it to be arduous labor initially, but were able to experience and tame the wild waves of the beach. They enjoyed both aspects of body boarding and surfing in the historic “Playa San Juan”; afterwards they headed home exhausted, thrilled, and ready to get some rest as the geared up for the next adventure right before returning home.
