Salam!

Kif Dayrin? Labas 3likum?

On Saturday Session II Rabat Language & Culture students visited Tangier for the day. After a long ride from Rabat students arrived at Tangier, students were immediately entranced by Tangier’s beauty.

Tangier, Europe’s gateway to Africa (separated from Spain by the 20 miles of the Strait of Gibraltar), throughout its history has attracted a wide array of visitors for its proximity to Europe and melting pot of cultures. Tangier is located northern Morocco, which was under joint international control until 1956. Due to its recent international control Tangier is evidently influenced by Spain, France and Portugal, with a mixture of North Africa.

Students had a tour of Tangier where they explored and learned about the Tangier port, Old Medina/Kasbah and ended the tour at the famous Cinema Rif.

Afterwards, students departed to visit the Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules. Cap Spartel is the most North Western point of Africa, where visitors can get a clear view of the mountains of Spain. Just below the Cape Spartel, students visited the Caves of Hercules. The legend is that the Roman God Hercules once stayed and slept in the caves. The caves have two openings, one to the sea and one to land. Many anthropoglots believe that the Phoenicians created the sea openings which is in the shape of Africa when looked at from the sea.

After a long and exciting day of exploring students returned to Rabat but now even more excited for their upcoming long weekend excursion to Marrakech.

Updates to come soon!
