Sometimes, You Should Just Take A Moment
Now that we are in May, I thought I would just take a quick moment to reflect on my time here so far.
I just wanted to take a moment on this very wet and rainy May 6th to just think about my time in South Korea so far. I have less than 2 months here and I can confidently say that this has been the best experience I have ever had the pleasure to do. Before coming to Korea, I was nervous because while this wouldn't be my first time living away from home, it was my first time living abroad. I came to South Korea for the first time in July 2019 and that sparked my interest in coming back to be a college student here. So while coming here was not new, being on my own in a foreign country would be. But I think I was more worried about what I would be missing at home and my home institution. As I have been here, however, any fomo that I could've had was non-existent. Maybe it was the years from boarding school and college, but I was able to just live in the moment while I've been here. Which, if you asked my mom or any of my friends at home, they would say I have a hard time just enjoying being in the moment. But here, I have been able to just enjoy the small moments of going to a cafe to do work or just exploring the places around my dorm. I have the places that are my favorites, such as Dalgi, a Korean family-run restaurant right around the dorm, or Namu Cafe, one of the many study cafes located in Sinchon.
Coming to Korea has also allowed me to embrace doing things by myself. With all my friends having different schedules, it is sometimes hard to schedule when we wanna do things. It has been nice being able to go to places around Seoul because it gives me the confidence that it is okay to do things by myself. I will be the first person to say I love my own company, but that's normally in the comfort of my own home. Being in Korea has allowed me to grow in multiple different areas and I cherish here for allowing me to do so. My time here in Korea will always remain an experience that I will cherish always. Now, I sign off but expect a blog about my trip to Japan and a concert review soon!
PS! Enjoy these two bears in Hanbok!
